Voltage divider calculator is an online calculator which helps to find out the out put voltage of an electrical circuit. Out put voltage is a function of input voltage. A simple voltage divider circuit consists of two resistance in series with an input voltage. The circuit diagram is shown in the figure. The equation for finding the out put voltage of the circuit is mentioned below.

$V_{out}$=$\frac{R_{b}}{R_{a}+R_{b}}$ $\times V_{in}$

Where $V_{out}$ is the out put voltage
$R_{a}$ and $R_{b}$ are the resistances
$V_{in}$ is the input voltage

## Steps for Voltage Divider Calculator

Step 1 :

Pick the given parameters from the question

Step 2 :

Find out the output voltage using the given formula.

$V_{out}$=$\frac{R_{b}}{R_{a}+R_{b}}$ $\times V_{in}$

## Example on Voltage Divider Calculator

1. ### Calculate the output voltage of a voltage divider circuit if the input voltage is given as 10V and resistances 5Ω and 3Ω respectively?

Step 1 :

The given parameters are,

$V_{in}$=10V

$R_{a}$=5Ω

$R_{b}$=3Ω

$V_{out}$=?

Step 2 :

Equation for output voltage is given by,

$V_{out}$=$\frac{R_{b}}{R_{a}+R_{b}}$ $\times V_{in}$

$V_{out}$=$\frac{3}{5+3}$ $\times$ 10

$V_{out}$=3.75V

The output voltage is given by,

$V_{out}$=3.75V

2. ### The input and output of a voltage divider circuit is 15V and 5V respectively. Calculate the value of Rb if the value of Ra is 4Ω?

Step 1 :

From th equation,

$V_{in}$=15V

$R_{a}$=4Ω

$R_{b}$=?

$V_{out}$=5V

Step 2 :

The equation for output voltage is,

$V_{out}$=$\frac{R_{b}}{R_{a}+R_{b}}$ $\times V_{in}$

5=$\frac{R_{b}}{4+R_{b}}$ $\times$ 15

5(4+$R_{b}$)=15$R_{b}$

20+5$R_{b}$=15$R_{b}$

20=10$R_{b}$

$R_{b}$=$\frac{20}{10}$=2Ω

The resistance $R_{b}$=2Ω
