Formula's

Volume of a triangular pyramid = $\frac{abh}{6}$

Where,

a = apothem length

b = side length

h = height

Volume of a square pyramid = $\frac{b^{2} * h}{3}$

base (b) = length of the side of the square.

height (h) = height of the pyramid.

Step 2 :

Put the values in the formulas and calculate it further.

Example Problems

1. The pyramid has its apothem length 8 cm , base side 4cm and height 12cm. find the volume of triangular pyramid.

Step 1 :

Given: Apothem length 8 cm , base side 4 cm and height 12 cm

Formula:

Volume of a triangular pyramid = $\frac{abh}{6}$

Where,

a = apothem length

b = side length

h = height

Step 2 :

Put the values in the formula and calculate it further

= $\frac{8*4*12}{6}$

= $\frac{384}{6}$

= 64 cm3

Volume of a triangular pyramid = 64 cm3

2. Calculate the volume of a square pyramid, if the side of a base is 4 cm and height of a pyramid is 7 cm.

Step 1 :

Given: base is 4 cm and height is 7 cm.

Formula

Volume of a square pyramid = $\frac{b^{2} * h}{3}$

base (b) = length of the side of the square.

height (h) = height of the pyramid.

Step 2 :

Put the values in the formula and calculate it further

= $\frac{4^{2} * 7}{3}$

= $\frac{16 * 7}{3}$

= $\frac{112}{3}$

= 37.33 cm3
