Friction Calculator
Top
When two bodies are in contact with each other a resistive force comes into play that slows down the motion. This is called friction.

Friction Calculator is used to find the friction between any 2 surfaces.

## Step by Step Calculation

Step 1 :

Friction Formula:

Friction: F = $\mu$ * N

Friction Coefficient: $\mu$ = $\frac{F}{N}$

Normal Force: N = $\frac{F}{\mu}$

Where,

F = frictional force

$\mu$ = friction coefficient,

N = Normal Force.

Step 2 :

Put the values in the formula and calculate it further.

## Example Problems

1. ### Calculate the frictional force between two metal surfaces if its friction coefficient is 0.5 and it is having the mass of 15 kg?

Step 1 :

Given: m = 15

$\mu$ = 0.5

The Normal force is given by

Normal force = mg

= 15 $\times$ 9.8

= 147 N

Friction Formula:

Friction: F = $\mu$ * N

Step 2 :

Put the values in the formula and calculate it further.

F = $\mu$ * N

= 0.5 $\times$ 147

= 73.5 N

Frictional Force = 73.5 N

2. ### A person is pulling a box filled with loads is having mass of 120 kg and frictional force is 1000 N. Calculate frictional coefficient between box and floor.

Step 1 :

Given: m = 120 kg

N = mg

= 120 * 9.8

= 1176 N

Formula:

$\mu$ = $\frac{F}{N}$

Step 2 :

Put the values in the formula and calculate it further.

$\mu$ = $\frac{1000}{1176}$

Friction Coefficient = 0.8503 N
