Step 2 :

$\int_{2}^{4}$ (x + 5) dx = $\int_{2}^{4}$ x dx + 5 $\int_{2}^{4}$ (1) dx

=> $\frac{4^{2}}{2}$ + 5(4) - $\frac{2^{2}}{2}$ + 5(2)

=> 8 + 20 - (2 + 10)

=> 8 + 20 - 2 - 10

=> 16

2. Solve the definite integral  $\int_{1}^{3}$ x3 dx ?

Step 1 :

Given function = x3 and upper limit = 3 and lower limit = 1

Step 2 :

$\int_{1}^{3}$ x3 dx

=> $\frac{3^{4}}{4}$  - $\frac{1^{4}}{4}$

=> $\frac{81}{4}$  - $\frac{1}{4}$

=> $\frac{81 - 1}{4}$

=> $\frac{80}{4}$

=> 20
