Step 1 :

Triangular Prism Formulas

Area of Base = $\frac{1}{2}$ * a * b

Perimeter of Base = S1 + S2 + S3

Surface Area of Prism = a * b + (S1 + S2 + S3) * h

Volume of Prism = $\frac{1}{2}$ * a * b * h

Where

a = altitude

b = base

h = height

S1, S2 and S3 are sides

Rectangular Prism Formulas

Area of Base = l * w

Perimeter of Base = (2*l+2*w)

Surface area of prism = (2*(l*w)+(2*l+2*w)*h)

Volume of Prism = l * w * h

Diagonal of prism = $\sqrt{l^{2}+w^{2}+h^{2}}$

Where,

l = length

w = width

h = height

## Example Problems

1. ### If the altitude of triangular prism is 4 cm, base is 5 cm, height is 7 cm and whose sides are equilateral 3 cm. Find the area of base, perimeter of base, surface area of prism and volume of prism.

Step 1 :

Given

S1 = S2 = S3 = 3 cm

a = 4 cm

b = 5 cm

h = 7 cm

Formulas

Area of Base = $\frac{1}{2}$ * a * b

Perimeter of Base = S1 + S2 + S3

Surface Area of Prism = a*b + (S1 + S2 + S3)*h

Volume of Prism = $\frac{1}{2}$ * a * b * h

Step 2 :

Area of base = 0.5 * 4 * 5

= 10 cm2

Perimeter of base = 3 + 3 + 3

= 9 cm

Surface area of prism = 4 * 5 + (3 + 3 + 3) * 7

= 83 cm2

Volume of prism = 0.5 * 4 * 5 * 7

= 70 cm3

Area of Base = 10 cm2

Perimeter of Base = 9 cm

Surface Area of Prism = 83 cm2

Volume of Prism = 70 cm3

2. ### If the rectangular prism is having a length 8 cm, width 6 cm and height 11 cm. Find area of base, perimeter of base, surface area of prism, volume of prism, diagonal of prism ?

Step 1 :

Given:

l = 8 cm

w = 6 cm

h = 11 cm

Area of Base = l * w

Perimeter of Base = (2*l+2*w)

Surface area of prism = (2*(l*w)+(2*l+2*w)*h)

Volume of Prism = l * w * h

Diagonal of prism = $\sqrt{l^{2}+w^{2}+h^{2}}$

Step 2 :

Put the values in the formula and calculate it further.

Area of base = 8 * 6

= 48 cm2

Perimeter of base = (2 * 8 + 2 * 6)

= (16 + 12)

= 28 cm

Surface area of prism = (2*(8 * 6) + (2 * 8 + 2 * 6) * 11)

= 404 cm2

Volume of Prism = 8 * 6 * 11

= 528 cm3

Diagonal of prism = $\sqrt{8^{2} * 6^{2} * 11^{2}}$

= 14.86 cm2

Area of Base = 48 cm2

Perimeter of Base = 28 cm

Surface Area of Prism = 404 cm2

Volume of Prism = 528 cm3
