Specific Gravity Calculator

Consider any substance, it will be having it's own density, if we want to know it's specific gravity, then we have to compare its density with some density taken as Reference Density.  Thus ratio of a substance’s density to the reference substance density is the Specific Gravity or Relative Density. However, ratio of the weight of a substance’s volume to the weight of reference substance’s equal volume is the apparent specific gravity.

The Specific Gravity Calculator is used to calculate the ratio of specific gravity of the object in the air weight to the equal volume of water weight.

Specific Gravity Formula

Specific Gravity = $\frac{Object\ in\ air\ weight}{Equal\ volume\ of\ water\ weight}$

## Steps for Specific Gravity Calculator

Step 1 :

Specific Gravity Formula:

Specific Gravity = $\frac{Object\ in\ air\ weight}{Equal\ volume\ of\ water\ weight}$

Object in air weight = Specific Gravity $\times$ Equal volume of water weight

Equal volume of water weight = $\frac{Object\ in\ air\ weight}{Specific\ Gravity}$

Step 2 :

State the equation you plan to use and plug in the values.

## Specific Gravity Problems

1. ### A stone is having weight of 10N, the equal volume of water is having the weight of 5N, calculate its specific gravity?

Step 1 :

Given that:

Stone weight = 10N

Equal volume of water weight = 5N

Specific Gravity = ?

Step 2 :

We know that:

Specific Gravity = $\frac{Object\ in\ air\ weight}{Equal\ volume\ of\ water\ weight}$

Specific Gravity = $\frac{10}{5}$

Specific Gravity = 2

Specific Gravity = 2

2. ### A stone immersed in water have a specific gravity of 3 units. If equal volume of water is having weight 7N, then calculate weight of the stone?

Step 1 :

Given that:

Specific Gravity = 3 units

Equal volume of water weight = 7N

Stone weight = ?

Step 2 :

We know that:

Object in air weight = Specific Gravity $\times$ Equal volume of water weight

Object in air weight = 3 $\times$ 7N

Object in air weight = 21N
